Ruth Elaine (Smith) Combs, 96, of Edgewood, formerly of rural Garber, passed from this life on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.

Private family funeral services will be held at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, conducted by Pastor Pam Reinig.

A private family burial will occur at Bethel Cemetery, rural Osterdock.

Ruth was born April 6, 1918, in North Dakota, the daughter of Ray V. and Mary (LouVay) Smith.  

Ruth was a rural Garber resident her entire life, with the exception of the last three years, where she resided at the Edgewood Convalescent Home where she passed.

On Oct. 24, 1937, Ruth was united in marriage to Vincent M. Combs. To this union two sons were born, Jon Edward Combs and Ronald Vincent Combs.

Ruth was a homemaker and together with her husband farmed at rural Garber.  She had also been employed for seventeen years at the Ertl Company in Dyersville, retiring at the age of sixty-two.

Ruth is survived by her son Ron (Naida) Combs of Garber; three grandchildren, Nadine Hansel of Asbury, Michelle (John) Carithers of Edgewood, and Jason (Melissa) Combs of Petersburg; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Chloe Carithers, and Madison, Jacob, and William Hansel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray V. and Mary (LouVay) Smith; her husband, Vince in 1970;  her son, Jon in 2012; and her eight siblings, Keith, Asa, Lloyd, Francis, Margaret, Betty, Mary Jean, and Donna.
