Betty Lou (Witte) McGee, age 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her on Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was born on November 25, 1921, in Elkader, Iowa, to parents Harvey and Florence (Tieden) Witte and grew up on the family’s dairy farm. She graduated from cosmetology school and throughout her life loved her clients and pursuing her work. 

Betty was an avid gardener, a hobby she enjoyed with her late husband, Jack. Her flower garden was always blooming with colorful flowers, which were admired by many people. Betty loved playing bridge with her friends and husband, and playing golf at Atlas Valley Country Club. She was also a talented painter and watercolorist. 

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lynn Hampton; grandsons: Rob (Susie) Hallstrand and Christopher (Angie Winford) Hallstrand; great-grandchildren: Chase, Avery, Nicholas, Austin, and Allie; nieces and nephews: Diane, Kim, Becky, Suzanne, Susan, Gary, Joyce, Julie, Mark, Bruce, and Dave. The family would like to give special thanks to Neysa, Michele, and Ashley for their endless compassion and care for Betty after Jack passed. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Robert “Jack” McGee on April 3, 2017; both parents; brothers; Bud Witte, Harvey Witte. 

A private family memorial service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
