Following the official canvass of votes on Nov. 13 for municipal elections held Nov. 7, a write-in candidate has been elected mayor of North Buena Vista.

Lacey Ludovissy garnered 15 write-in votes which tied the vote total for incumbent mayor Robert Ludovissy, who was the only declared candidate on the ballot.

Clayton County Auditor Jennifer Garms explained that in the event of a tie, the winner is determined by drawing lots.

"This can be done by drawing names out of a hat, flipping a coin, drawing for high card, etc." said Garms. "Clayton County draws for high card. Lacey Ludovissy's card was higher than Robert Ludovissy's, making her the winner. "

As a write-in, she was contacted to determine if she would accept or decline the position. She accepted. She was also an official candidate for city council and received enough votes to be elected to the council. With her acceptance of the mayor's seat, a vacancy opened up on the council. "The seat can be filled by appointment of the council, or the city can call for a special election," said the Auditor.
