Marcele Kottman

 

Marcele Marjorie (Pals) Kottman, 92, formerly of Thornton, IA, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton, IA.

A funeral service was held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 25, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, with Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating.  Visitation was Friday, October 24, 4 to 7 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, IA and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment was at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Thornton.  Memorials may be given to the Marcele Kottman Memorial Fund.

Margaret Baker obituary

 

Margaret “Granny” Baker, 87, of Garnavillo, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at her home. She was the daughter of John and Annie (Kelso) Milligan, born August 31, 1927, in North Kingston, Rhode Island.

Margaret graduated from high school in Rhode Island and was a homemaker for many years. On May 29, 1946, she was united in marriage with Elmer Baker Jr. in Phoenix, Arizona.

Jon Dennis Elvers was born on December 28, 1943, the son of LaNelle (Ehrhardt) and Arthur Elvers. The family made their home in rural Elkader, Iowa, where Art and LaNelle operated the family farm on Chicken Ridge. Jon attended school in Elkader, where he was active in basketball, 4-H, FFA, and band, where he played the coronet.

Scott Alan Whitford

 

Scott Alan Whitford, 53, passed away at his home in Gilbert, AZ on August 31, 2014 surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with brain cancer following that diagnosis September 2012. There will be a memorial service at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19.

Janis Colleen Brown, 82, of Elkader, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following many years of enduring health issues. She was born on the family farm, rural Elkader, on July 16, 1932, the oldest child, of Orvald E. and Iowa L. (Erickson) Larson. Janis was baptized and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church.

Arleen Wolf

 

Arleen Louise Wolf, 102, of Edgewood, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She was born on May 20, 1912, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Louise (Pupke) Muschewske. Arleen graduated with the class of 1929 from Guttenberg High School. She attended Elkader Junior College and then received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Arleen taught rural school in Elkport, Volga, Elkader, and Edgewood.

Erma Davis, 95, of Volga, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, September 14, 2014.

Survivors include her two sisters, Eunice Brand and Elgene Howard from Central Iowa; three children, Paul (Helena) Davis of Volga, Jean Driver and Joyce (Ralph) Funkhouser; two grandchildren, Paula (Charles) Pedersen and Laura (William) Davidson, and great-grandchildren, Faith Pedersen and Linsey Davidson, all from Illinois.

Mary Ann Glesne

 

Mary Ann Glesne, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  Mary Ann, the daughter of Alvin and Vivian (Orvis) Larson, was born May 2, 1928 in St. Olaf, IA. She graduated from Monona High School in 1946.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State Teachers College in 1949 and her Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois. 

Mary Ann was united in marriage with Edmund Lee Glesne on May 29, 1949, at the Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf, IA. Four children, Mark, Reed, Linda, and John, were born to this union.

Lloyd Breitsprecher

 

Lloyd L. Breitsprecher, 85, of Onalaska and formerly of Merrill, WI, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse.

He was born March 12, 1929, in Farmersburg, Iowa, to Louis and Alice (Strien) Breitsprecher. Lloyd attended and graduated from high school in Farmersburg, Iowa. He then attended the University of Dubuque where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications.
