Stanton was born June 18, 1921, to Minnie (Lembke) and Arthur Klinge. He grew up on the family farm near Farmersburg, and he attended Hawkeye Country School in the Farmersburg area.

On August 23, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ida Louise Thiese. As a cattle producer he was active in several local and statewide producer groups, and sold seed corn for many years.

Stanton enjoyed his life as a farmer, raising four sons on the family farm, serving as a 4-H leader, and actively supporting local community clubs and activities. An advocate for the family farm, he played a pivotal role in supporting his sons' development of their own farming careers.

A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Stanton will be remembered most for his love of family, his devotion to his faith, his joy of driving, and his enthusiasm for playing pinochle with friends and family.

Stanton is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Klinge; his sons and their spouses, John and Kathy Klinge of Farmersburg, Joel and Sara Klinge of Platteville, Wis., Jeff Klinge and Deborah Tidwell of Farmersburg, and Jason Klinge of Farmersburg; his nine grandchildren, Amy Klinge of Waukon, Mike Klinge of Monona, Molly Klinge of Sparta, Wis., Scott Klinge of River Falls, Wis., Laura Klinge of Chicago, Ill., Noah Klinge of Phoenix, Ariz., Elizabeth (Derek) Peterson of Des Moines, Christina Klinge of Ankeny, and Jordan Klinge of Farmersburg; and numerous cousins.
