Stock Market Update: Nikkei 225 Falls 0.80% as Mitsubishi Motors and Nippon Yusen Lead Gains

The Tokyo Stock Exchange saw the Nikkei 225 index fall by 0.80% at the close of trading. However, there were some notable gainers during the session. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) was the best performer, rising by 5.83% or 36.50 points to reach 662.60 at the end of the day. Rising stocks outpaced declining ones, with 2122 stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gaining, 1536 falling, and 217 remaining unchanged.

In commodities trading, the Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, reached a three-month low, declining by 0.50% to 15.99.

Crude oil for November delivery rose by 0.60% or 0.54 to $91.12 a barrel. Brent oil for delivery in November also saw gains, rising by 0.35% or 0.33 to reach $94.76 a barrel. Meanwhile, the December Gold Futures contract rose by 0.03% or 0.65 to trade at $1,954.05 a troy ounce.

In currency trading, the USD/JPY pair rose by 0.12% to 147.78, while the EUR/JPY pair saw a modest increase of 0.01% to 157.83. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the value of the U.S. dollar against a basket of other currencies, was down by 0.02% at 104.83.
